Steak and Chips Platter Cake

I was contacted by Pete at Willoughby PR and Scott from Spirit Pub Company to create a birthday cake for one of their clients.  A Flaming Grill pub was celebrating it's second anniversary and they requested a replica of their popular steak platter.

The cake was all edible with sugar steak, onions, chips and sauce...what do you think?

This was the very first time I had made savoury food like this so it took a few practice attempts, especially with the steak - difficult!  It was a great opportunity to use my much ignored airbrush too and I must say I was very happy with the results...there is room for improvement with the final look of the chips but, as I walked by them while they were drying on the worktop, I felt a huge temptation to pick one up and eat it so perhaps they weren't that bad!

See you soon...

Lovebirds Wedding Cake

This cake was designed with the lovely bride-to-be Esme.  The colour inspiration was pink and ivory, the flowers to be used were peonies and both she and her bridesmaids would be wearing pearls so she wanted all of these to be included.
The lovebirds came from some photographs that Esme had found and I absolutely love them!

The venue was the Fazeley Studios which is located in quite a urban, industrial part of Birmingham and as you drive up you're wondering 'are we in the right place?' but when you walk through the doors, into the huge high ceiled hall, it just takes your breath away.  You then wander into the ceremony room, wedding breakfast room and the outside courtyard and just keep saying wow to yourself!

The order also included chocolate, lemon and carrot cupcakes so we set up a display of cake and cake stands (I do so love my cake stands) in the corner of the wedding breakfast room (unfortunately away from natural light so please forgive the photos)

Each guest had a cupcake to take home in a little customised box - don't you think that's a sweet idea?

And just a quick snap of 'the dream team' - thank you for your help Mr Dave.

See you soon
